  2. How can I bypass my company firewall and access cpanel?
  3. How do I access cPanel behind a firewall?
  4. Can I access cPanel if my company uses a firewall?
  5. Can’t access cPanel due to firewall, what can I do?

Rest assured there is a solution for most situations in which cPanel access is blocked due to a firewall in place on the network. Just following these simple steps to bypass the firewall and still gain access to cPanel.

Note: AvekHost.com web hosting clients can avoid these below steps by submitting a support request. Our support team will be more than happy to do this for you. Or, you are welcome to do yourself.

  1. Visit http://cpanelproxy.net and download the zip file.
  2. Extract your zip file
  3. Log into cPanel and create a sub-domain titled cpanel. Note you will need access to cPanel from a computer in which most folks are able to do so from home.
  4. Once you create your sub-domain name in cPanel upload the contents from the file you just downloaded into the cpanel subdomain name folder which is usually in this directory: /public_html/cpanel/ directory. Note: include all files including the .htaccess file.

Once these steps are completed you should be able to access cpanel by visiting http://cpanel.yourdomain.com and access cPanel and webmail when you behind a firewall.

Cheap Web Hosting – Discovering Quality Web Hosting

Naturally we all want the best products and services for the least amount of cost to us. It’s simply human nature! However, when it comes to getting cheap web hosting or simply searching for a web hosting company that truly provides cheap web hosting than you must be, and I repeat must be, carefull to not fall in the traps of typical marketing tatics to capture business.

For example I ran across a web hosting advertisement the other day for a competitor that offer fantastic web hosting for just $1.67 per month. Being in the web hosting industry I couldn’t do anything else but wonder how any company could truly provide great support, quality web hosting, solid up-time, etc. That is till I visited there web site and discovered there marketing strategy.

Yep, the sure do offer web hosting with a lot of great features, functions, and benefits for just $1.67 per month but (you knew the but was coming) you have to pay for 10 years in advance! That is not a typo, yes a whopping 10 years in advance to get that out of this world price of just $1.67 per month. Your search for cheap web hosting now provides you with two options 1) pay a 10 year price of $200.40 now or 2) sign up for a month to month plan for just $7.77.

I suspect that most visitors to the web hosting service sign up for the monthly plan because they are looking for cheap hosting and $200 + off the bat doesn’t sound ideally all that cheap for an upfront cost. So are they really getting cheap web hosting like they thought? I let you be the judge of that when you compare it to our premier web hosing service starting at just $5.95 per month and with out all the marketing tricks, tatics, and strategies.

Whether you decide to get cheap web hosting through AvekHost or go through another hosting provider just be smart about your decision. Ultimately it will cost you more time and money in the long run to have down time, move your site, loss of customers, etc. if things just don’t work out.

How Much Hosting Space Will I Need For My Web Site?

How Much Hosting Space Will I Need For My Web Site?

If you conduct a search today on Google using the terms “Web Hosting Service“, you likely get over 20 Million results to search through. Conducting the same search on MSN’s Live Search you’ll likely get over 269 Million Results and on Yahoo Search over 1.2 Billion results.

Now granted there are with out question multiple listings within for the same site within these search results but never the less you’ll quickly come to understand that there is a lot of competition in the web hosting industry. It is also fairly safe to say that with more competition comes more aggressive marketing in effort to earn your business. Personally, I feel that many hosting companies mislead consumers through there marketing tactics by selling services they either don’t need or in choosing there company based on the positioning of there hosting plans such as “Unlimited Web Hosting” or “200 gigabytes of space”. So, you as the consumer make choices based on perceived value that truly does not benefit you in anyway. For example, if you are hosting a small business web site that only has a few images and few pages (let’s say fewer than 10 pages) and you’re looking for a hosting company to host your site do you choose the company that offers 200GB for $5.95 or the company that offers 500MB of hosting space for $5.95? Truthfully a site of this size will likely never use the allotted hosting space from either company; but you knowing that GB is larger than MB, might go with the company that offers the 200GB because of the perceived value of getting more “bang for your buck”.

Basing your decision on who to host with merely on the perceived value of the hosting package could send down the path of having some very negative experiences with the hosting of your web site. So how much space do you really need? At the end of the day it truly comes down to what you plan to do with your web site. A site offering movies and music for downloads will need much larger space because the files themselves are very large. A web site that has 100 pages offering “How to Information” for example with a few pictures on each page would require significantly less space than one offering music downloads.

Step 1 – Is to determine what your site will be used for.

Step 2 – Is to estimate what the space you will need. If you plan on allowing web visitors to download music use an estimated size of 5MB for each song you will have available to your clients. Some songs will be larger in size while others will be small. I personally went through my MP3 songs and most were between 2.5MB and 4.0MB and estimating by 5MB will help ensure you have some cushion along with my suggestion in step 3. You’ll also need to calculate the number of pages you will have to display information about your available songs and for your clients to click and download which is in the next paragraph.

If you are hosting a web site that offers information to your clients, prospects, etc. than you can estimate that the average page will be about 20KB in size (again some will be larger and some will be smaller), for each image you can estimate around 50KB in size, and add 5KB for perhaps a java script you might run on the page. Using this calculation the average size per page being hosted would be about 75KB per page on average. If you have 100 pages that will be hosted you will need at least 75,000KB of hosting space. Remember KB (Kilobytes) is smaller than MB (Megabytes) and that roughly 1,000KB = 1MB and roughly 1,000MB = 1GB. Take 75,000KB and divide by 1,000 and you’ll need roughly 75MB to host the pages to your web site.

Step 3 – Triple the amount of space you calculated. Why? To provide you and/or your company with a safety net when it comes to the future needs of your web site. For example, some hosts may include email accounts and databases in the hosting space. In addition, you don’t want to have to worry about upgrading your hosting account every time you decide to add to your site or take it to the next level. In theory a web hosting plan that offers you at least 225MB of hosting space would be more than enough to host your website of 100 pages full of information. Even if you get one that is 5 times the size you actually need you would still only need a hosting account that offer 375MB or for 10 times the size you would need just 750MB. So going back to my second paragraph in this example you really wouldn’t need a hosting account that offers even one GB of hosting space.

You might ask what my point is. Basing your decision strictly on the package size of your hosting plan is not always the best choice for deciding who to host with and ultimately you could be missing out on some very good features, functions, benefits, and most importantly positive experiences by using hosting space as your only choice for deciding on whom to host with. When choosing a web hosting provider, consider these following things:

    1. How long have they been providing hosting services?

    2. How is there reputation online?

    3. Does there hosting package meet my needs for my site, domain, email, etc.?

    4. Did they respond within 24 hours to my email? Be weary of organizations that respond to fast as they could be more focused on gaining new customers than servicing existing customers. You’ll likely want to be apart of an organization who services there existing client base prior to servicing prospective clients.

    5. What does your gut feeling tell you? Go with your gut!

I hope you find this information to be useful and welcome any questions, comments, and/or concerns you may have through our blog at http://www.avekhost.com/blog/.

Using A Blog To Promote Your Business

    by: Zachary Thompson

Using a blog to promote your wellness business is a very effective marketing tool. What is great about using blogs is that you can promote your wellness business absolutely free. There are many places on the Internet that you can set up a blog without it costing you a single penny. With a new home business it is important to maximize promotion without spending all your profits on advertising and marketing. Using a blog is one of the methods that you can use to promote your wellness business without it emptying your business budget.

You do not have to be a computer wiz, internet wiz or programmer to set up an attractive blog. There are many places on the Internet that have blogs already set up for you. All that you have to do is create a free account, select the name for you blog and start making blog posts. It’s literally that simple without requiring that you know how to program or pay any type of membership fees or hosting fees. This is why blogging is ideal for promotion because it’s so simple to do.

Once you have your blog selected and your account created, it is time to name your blog. When selecting a name choose something that fits both the wellness industry and compliments the types of products that you will be promoting for your wellness business. For example, if you sell weight loss products you could name your blog something such as Skinny Tips. This would let others know the general theme of the blog.

The blog setup will ask you to create a description for you blog. Take the time to write out several descriptions until you have just the perfect one. The description that you post on the blog will often be what is used when search engines pick up your blog and list it in the pages. For the example of the skinny tips blog you could do a description such as helpful tips and information for weight loss. The description then further explains your blog so that more people are likely to read your posts because they will know what the blog is going to be about before they start reading.

What should you write about for your blog? One of the top things to write about is the general topic of the blog. Blogs with a lot of different topics can get confusing to readers. They are successful but the purpose of this type of business blog is to promote your wellness home business. If for example you had the Skinny Tips blog, you could write short pieces about losing weight, eating well and exercising. You can even write reviews for the different products that you are promoting. In the reviews, you can link directly to the product to encourage visitors to visit your main wellness small home business Internet site.

The primary purpose of blogs is to provide information. Providing a great deal of information is the key to a successful blog for business. You get people that would not normally visit a wellness product site to come and read your blog. After reading your blog on a regular basis, visitors will naturally go and visit your business site. Use the blog as a portal to get traffic to your website and not as a big advertisement. People will stay and read the information if it is informative and entertaining.
